Have you ever noticed that certain people can walk into a room and everything changes? They aren’t always the most recognizable person or the one with the greatest talent and resources, yet the atmosphere shifts. Conversations take on new meaning, creative ideas begin to flow, and people leave changed simply because of the encounter
These people are catalysts.

While we are not chemical compounds being mixed together in a beaker, the picture is compelling. God created us to be men and women whose lives spark transformation in the world around us.
I have a good friend who had a vision to help sixth-grade students discover their potential and develop leadership skills. The gap between success and failure was evident and growing, and she decided something needed to be done. It began with a simple idea and the conviction that investing in young people could change lives. Her initiative wasn’t backed by a large organization, and there was no money to be made. It was fueled by sheer determination, faith, and a commitment to make a lasting difference in the next generation, whatever the cost.
It was a privilege to be included in part of her processing and to participate in the classroom with the students. Each session included time for discussion and mentoring. The shift from the students’ curiosity and hesitancy at the start to enthusiasm and confidence by the end of the year was undeniable. It didn’t take long for the results to become apparent. to both the teachers and school administrators. They were eager to expand the program into other schools throughout the city. Soon, the greatest obstacle wasn’t finding opportunities—it was finding enough people to serve in all the classrooms.
What began as one woman’s desire to change the trajectory of young people eventually became part of the curriculum used to train new teachers at a local university. The hope is that by equipping more champions for the program, its effects will extend beyond her city and state, delivering results for sixth-graders everywhere.
She is a catalyst.
The dream was far too large for one person to accomplish alone. She simply set something in motion that inspired others to invest their time, energy, and resources. That’s what catalysts do. They don’t try to accomplish everything themselves; they ignite change that continues.
God designed every one of us to live that way. We were all created with the DNA of creative genius and with the expectation that our lives would influence others. Even the most ordinary person carries the capacity to initiate meaningful, lasting change. Yet many of us underestimate what God has placed within us, or worse, we miss the opportunities He places in front of us because we believe we have too little to offer.
That’s the truth, my friend, never set out to become a hero. She walked into a handful of classrooms with nothing but conviction and a willingness to start small, and she changed the course of a generation of students, most of whose stories she will never see the end of. That’s what happens when someone stops waiting to feel equipped and starts trusting that what’s in their hands is enough.
You don’t need a title, a platform, or to have all the answers before you start; just a willingness to walk into the room, maybe one you’re already in, and let God use what you have to offer.
The world is still full of rooms waiting for someone to walk in and change everything.
Maybe that someone is you.
